Settlement services will provide direct services to immigrants to Canada including information and referral services, orientation, translation and interpretation, counseling, and assistance with a job search. MCY staff can assist clients with immediate settlement needs such as health care, transportation, housing, education and employment. These services can be offered on a one-to-one basis or in a group setting through various programs offered at the Multicultural Centre of the Yukon.
These services exist to facilitate the successful settlement and integration of immigrants and refugees into the social, economic, and cultural life in a new country and community.
Through funding from Citizen and Immigration Canada (CIC) and the Yukon Government, Advanced Education Branch (AEB) services are available to permanent residents, refugees, Yukon nominees, Canadian citizens and individuals with work permits. This includes an introduction to the local community that would provide the immigrant with a sense of belonging to the community, and also provide information about their rights and obligations.
MCY programs offer assistance to immigrants on a one-to-one basis, in group sessions or by site visits.
